SURF 17 - May 19-20, 2011 - Chicago, IL

SURF is excited to announce that our next meeting will be located at the U.S. EPA Region 5 headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.

SURF 17 will be held Thursday-Friday, May 19 and 20, 2011, following on the heels of the RemTEC Summit 2011.

The theme for our upcoming meeting is “The Incorporation of Green and Sustainable Remediation into Projects at the State and Federal Level within Region 5”.

Program Highlights:

Brad Bradley, Superfund Green Remediation Coordinator for Region 5, will moderate an interactive panel discussion.  Panelists from federal and state environmental agencies will discuss the following topics and more:

  • The current state of green and sustainable cleanups in the Region 5 area;
  • The policies and initiatives that are being developed or implemented, and which are working and why;
  • The incorporation, use, and adoption of historical policies and other initiatives; and
  • How social impacts and benefits are being considered or incorporated.

There will also be a keynote address by Robert Colangelo, Executive Director of the National Brownfields Association, and additional presentations by Henry Henderson, Director of the Midwest Program of the Natural Resource Defense Council, and Dick Raymond, President of Terra Systems, on the P.L.A.C.E.S. Program.

SURF's technical and outreach initiatives will also have the opportunity to meet and discuss their activities, objectives, and goals for the upcoming year.

Planning for the meeting is ongoing.  Additional information will be posted to the SURF website's meeting Agenda and Bulletin Board pages as it becomes available.  Registration will be open in mid-April.
