The meeting location is easily accessed by public transportation or by a short walk from area hotels.  Take the CTA blue line train to the Halsted/UIC station.  If you need to park a car, a public parking lot is located at the intersection of West Taylor and Halsted Streets.  Be sure to park in the parking structure, not by the meters outside.  Information about public transportation, directions to the meeting venue and parking garage, and a map is available here.

Group Dinner:
SURF's group dinners are a fun and ongoing tradition.  The meeting venue is located in Greek Town and meeting participants can walk to the group dinner at the end of the first day of the meeting. Transportation Options:
The venue area is serviced by Chicago Midway and O’Hare airports.  Both airports have train and taxi service to/from the Loop.  O’Hare is northwest of the Loop. Midway is southwest of the Loop.

The CTA Orange Line goes from Midway airport to the Loop and back. If taking the orange line from Midway airport, there are two options: (1) Transfer to the Blue line at the Jackson stop and exit at the UIC-Halsted stop, or (2) Take a taxi from the LaSalle/Van Buren stop.

Hotel Durant is located adjacent to the UC Berkeley campus and centrally located relative to our meeting location and Tuesday night dinner (approximately a 10 minute walk to each location). The closest public transit (BART) to local airports and San Francisco is approximately a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel.

Hotel Shattuck
Hotel Shattuck is located in downtown Berkley adjacent to BART and many restaurants/shops. The meeting location and Tuesday Dinner are approximately 1.5 miles and 1 mile (respectively) from the Hotel Shattuck.

Tuesday nights’ group dinner will be held at Le Bateau Ivre, an Alameda County Certified Green Business. This rustic, quaint restaurant is equidistance between BART and the meeting location and easily accessible via AC Transit.  A banquet style dinner will be served in a converted French cottage built in 1898.

Daily permits are available for all visitors, as well as CSU staff, faculty, and students for $6.00 each.

• Daily permit dispenser machines are located in the Moby Lot (195), the Spruce Lot (330), the Art Lot (505), the University Square Lot (575), and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital West Lot (725).
• Daily scratch-off permits are available for students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Parking Services (1508 Center Avenue, corner of Prospect Road and Center Avenue in the Lake Street Parking Garage).

Denver International Airport is the closest major airport.

You can either use a rental car or a shuttle service like SuperShuttle (www.supershuttle.com) to reach Ft. Collins in about an hour.  Green Ride operates on an hourly schedule between Fort Collins and Denver International Airport, and are offering SURF meeting attendees a discount of $5 on each reservation made with their service.  You can book reservations at the discounted rate by making reservations via the SURF Conference portal, or by calling 888-472-6656.  Please be sure to mention that you are with the “SURF Conference” to ensure you get the discount (it is best to do this early in the reservation or while confirming email and credit card information).  You may also book reservations through the main Green Ride website.  Enter SURF as the profile ID at the bottom of the page.  See the main website for a full schedule and additional information.

Public transit within the downtown area is free until 7:00 PM. There are multiple buses that run every few minutes up and down Third Avenue. You will not need a car to get around.

Parking
After arriving on campus, the first place to look for parking is the East Campus Parking Garage, a pay-as-you-park facility. There are entrances at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Beeler Street and also on the south side of the garage closest to the University Center and Gesling Stadium. The south side entrance can be accessed on Forbes Avenue just past the intersection with Morewood Avenue. Additional parking is available in other locations throughout campus. Transportation Options:

The Pittsburgh International Airport is 22 miles (approximately 45 minutes driving time) from the Carnegie Mellon campus.

Once you arrive at the Pittsburgh International Airport, there are several transportation options to bring you to campus or to your hotel (see below).  Our hosts have recommended the 28X Airport Flyer (see third bullet below).

• Taxi service.  The average taxi fare from the airport to campus is about $40-$45, plus gratuity. There are typically taxi cabs outside of the airport, but if you need to call a service, call Yellow Cab (412-321-8100) or Classy Cab (412-322-5080).  
  
  
• Rental Car. You can rent a car on-site at the Pittsburgh International Airport.
  
  
• Public Bus Transportation with Port Authority Transit. The 28X Airport Flyer bus stops in the heart of the Carnegie Mellon campus and typically takes 45 minutes en route to the airport. The trip is free for Carnegie Mellon students and costs $2.25 for other passengers.
